Bg 4.35

yaj jñātvā na punar moham
evaṁ yāsyasi pāṇḍava
yena bhūtāny aśeṣāṇi
drakṣyasy ātmany atho mayi

Word for word:

yat — which; jñātvā — knowing; na — never; punaḥ — again; moham — to illusion; evam — like this; yāsyasi — you shall go; pāṇḍava — O son of Pāṇḍu; yena — by which; bhūtāni — living entities; aśeṣāṇi — all; drakṣyasi — you will see; ātmani — in the Supreme Soul; atha u — or in other words; mayi — in Me.

Translation:

Having obtained real knowledge from a self-realized soul, you will never fall again into such illusion, for by this knowledge you will see that all living beings are but part of the Supreme, or, in other words, that they are Mine.

This verse will talk about what is the effect of knowing about guru, so when we come to know about spiritual master that knowledge liberates us.

Yaj Jnatva => after you know this. Na punar moham -> again no more illusion. Evam yasyasi pandava -> as you are in illusion right now again you will not go into illusion.  Yena bhutany asesani -> all living entity asesa means not more sesa not remaining any one. Draksyasy -> to see. Atmany athi mayi -> you will see them as spiritual or you will see them as mine.

This is first verse in BG in which Shri Krishna talks about His relationship with the living entity. In second chapter when Shri Krishna talks about the soul He doesn’t talk about relation of soul with supreme soul. He does mention that fix your mind on me in 2.16 and 3.30 offer your work to me, He has said have faith in Me but till now he has not explicitly stated what is our relationship with Him eternally.

Here Krishna is saying those living being who are free from illusion they see all living entities as spiritual i.e. atmani. In context of BG this verse means that Krishna is saying to Arjuna, you alone are not concerned about Bhisma, Dhrona etc I am concerned about them as they are mine, they are all my parts and parcel, they are all my children and I am concerned about them, what I am telling you to do about them that is ultimately for their best, so don’t see with the illusory vision that they are just my relatives. This is one way of seeing but this is temporary relationship, these are souls and souls have eternal relationship with Krishna so they are mine.

So Krishna is saying, Two results of Gyana are:

  1. No more illusion again
  2. See all living being as in Krishna and Krishna’s

After this Krishna will state how this change takes place.

SP purport: The sense of an existence separate from Kṛṣṇa is called māyā (mā – not, yā – this).

So when we see maya, see everything as connected to Shri Krishna we become free from Maya.

SP purport: Even the millions of incarnations are only His different expansions.

So we should also see all incarnation as part of Shri Krishna.

So this unified vision that everything is connected to Krishna is spiritual knowledge.

SP purport: Such bodily differences arise from forgetfulness of the transcendental service of the Lord. But when one is engaged in transcendental service through Kṛṣṇa consciousness, one becomes at once liberated from this illusion.

In SB 2.10.6 muktir hitvā~anyathā rūpaṁ, sva-rūpeṇa vyavasthitiḥ Liberation means to be situated in one’s constitutional position as an eternal servitor of Krishna (Krishna consciousness).

So currently living entities are in different bodily form as human being, animals, demigods these are hitva anyatha rupam, when one will give up and will be situated in his Sva-rupam he is liberated.

Now Shri Krishna will tell the process by which it happens it is such a great process by which anyone and everyone will be liberated no matter how sinful the person is.
