sa yogī paramo mataḥ

Translation:

He is a perfect yogī who, by comparison to his own self, sees the true equality of all beings, in both their happiness and their distress, O Arjuna!

Ātmaupamyena by comparing with the Atma upama sarvatra, all living being, samaṁ paśyati, one who sees all living being are similar yo ’rjuna, sukhaṁ vā yadi vā duḥkhaṁ, in there happiness and distress, sa yogī paramo mataḥ, so who is the top most Yogi one who sees true equality of all living beings in their happiness and distress by comparison to oneself, What Srila Prabhupada express very beautifully that this verse is a call for compassion.

One understand that when I was not spiritually conscious (one compares oneself with all living being) when I was not doing this I was miserable when I was not Krishna Consciousness I was miserable now when I became Krishna Conscious I became happy, therefore actually Krishna Consciousness is the way to happiness not just for me but for all living beings eventually all living beings are similar to me so what has made me happy will make other also happy, so when the yogi goes to highest stage of perfection… even in the chapter of Astanag Yoga Krishna doesn’t consider one to be top yogi who is lost in the inner mediation. Inner realization, inner fulfilment, leads to compassion with others, oh others are also like me only, so what will made me happy will also make them happy therefore let me share this with others so in astanag yoga chapter Sri Krishna is making call for compassion, call for outreach, yogis understand that actually I have tested this nectar so I want other’s also to taste this nectar and therefore let me share Krishna Consciousness, When Srila Prabhupada was preaching all over the world there were many yogis, Yoga become quite popular but there are many Yoga teachers who doesn’t come out of himalayas they stays in Himalayas, one yoga teacher was quite famous but he was living in Himalayas only so some reported from some magazine went there and interviewed that yoga teacher and he was impressed by this yogi and he said you have so much wisdom why don’t you come to west and share this wisdom with the world he said when the person is thirsty the person comes to the river the river doesn’t go to the person that is attitude of some yogis but what was Srila Prabhupada attitude? Actually people are thirsty but they are so much in illusion that they don’t realize that they are thirsty, people need spirituality people need Sri Krishna but they don’t think that they need Sri Krishna therefore we go out to the people so normally when people are sick they go to the hospital but in emergency (epidemic) hospital staff comes out to the people and this yuga is like spiritual emergency and that is why we go out with Holy Name we have Jagannath Rath Yatra going in all places of world, and beyond that yogi also sees that everyone is suffering so let me Share Krishna Consciousness with everyone so that they will become happy so this is the perfection of yoga stage it is not just inner meditation of perfection, inner contemplation but it is outer compassion and desire for benefiting others that is the perfection of Yoga.
