Bg 11.32

śrī-bhagavān uvāca
kālo ’smi loka-kṣaya-kṛt pravṛddho
lokān samāhartum iha pravṛttaḥ
ṛte ’pi tvāṁ na bhaviṣyanti sarve
ye ’vasthitāḥ praty-anīkeṣu yodhāḥ

Word for word:

śrībhagavān uvāca — the Personality of Godhead said; kālaḥ — time; asmi — I am; loka — of the worlds; kṣayakṛt — the destroyer; pravṛddhaḥ — great; lokān — all people; samāhartum — in destroying; iha — in this world;pravṛttaḥ — engaged; ṛte — without, except for; api — even; tvām — you; na — never; bhaviṣyanti — will be;sarve — all; ye — who; avasthitāḥ — situated; pratianīkeṣu — on the opposite sides; yodhāḥ — the soldiers.

Translation:

The Supreme Personality of Godhead said: Time I am, the great destroyer of the worlds, and I have come here to destroy all people. With the exception of you [the Pāṇḍavas], all the soldiers here on both sides will be slain.

Arjuna has first described the universal form then he described reactions of various residence to the perception of UF, then he described his own emotions, and then he described suddenly the vision comes down to battle field and he sees various warriors there getting destroyed (we discussed God destroy temporary to make way to eternal), then Arjuna concluded with the question who are You?

So from verse 32 onwards Visva Rupa speaks.

Here Kala Rupa is merciful towards Arjuna which indicated kala rupa is ferocious towards non devotees but not ferocious towards devotees like Narashimha Dev. Sridhar Swami whose Esta Deva was Narshimha Dev has said just like lioness is ferocious for everyone except her cubs similarly is Narashimha Deva.

…so even if you don’t fight I have come here as Time and I will destroy everyone, so destruction is already ordained by divine arrangement…

SP Purport:

As stated in the Kaṭha Upaniṣad (1.2.25),

yasya brahma ca kṣatraṁ ca
ubhe bhavata odanaḥ
mṛtyur yasyopasecanaṁ
ka itthā veda yatra saḥ

Eventually all the brāhmaṇas, kṣatriyas and everyone else are devoured like a meal by the Supreme. This form of the Supreme Lord is the all-devouring giant, and here Kṛṣṇa presents Himself in that form of all-devouring time

yasya brahma ca kṣatraṁ ca, Brahmana and Kshetriya

ubhe bhavata odanaḥ, they are all consumed, devoured like a meal by the Supreme.

mṛtyur yasyopasecanaṁ, as the form of death consumes everyone

ka itthā veda yatra saḥ, who can know such a form of Absolute Truth.

In Bible it is mentioned that when they conquer some kingdom first thing they should do is destroy all idols, second some prophet said to kill the tribes who doesn’t believe in Christianity, similar instruction can be found in Koran also.

…so in this verse context first, Kaurava were adharmic, Pandavas were dharmich and everything is tried to make peace and only after that war is declared. And beyond that BG is philosophical.

Virata Rupa is not eternal in the sense it is spiritual world there is no form which exist as Virata Rupa. There is Goloka there is Ayodhaya. This is a temporary revelation demonstrated to point Lord’s Vibhuti, how He pervades everything and exists everywhere. It is this which is demonstrated by this form and that is the highlight.

Also we cannot divorce destruction from the jurisdiction of God, like there is a virtuous king but the king also maintains prison house.
