Life is a journey. This metaphor is often used to explain various facets of life, including spiritual progress: we embark on a devotional journey towards Krishna from the miserable material world to the ecstatic spiritual world.
Like all material examples used to illustrate spiritual truths, the journey metaphor has its limitations. It may bring inordinate focus on the destination, implying that the essence of spiritual advancement is attaining a particular destination.
However, the essence is the development of our loving attraction for Krishna. He is the source of all happiness – happiness that can be accessed by cultivating his loving remembrance. The more we love him, the more our consciousness spontaneously connects with him, that is, the more we naturally remember him, thereby relishing the happiness of remembering him. This devotional remembrance is akin to sporting in an ocean of happiness – an ocean that the bhakti literatures aptly refer to as the ocean of devotion.
This ocean is shoreless and fathomless because Krishna being infinite his sweet glories are unlimited. Due to this divine inexhaustibility, we can keep increasing our love for him forever and thereby keep progressing deeper and deeper into spiritual happiness by ever-increasing absorption in him. And this can happen even without attaining the spiritual world. The Bhagavad-gita (12.08) underscores that those whose mind and intelligence are absorbed in Krishna already live in him.
This implies that we don’t have to stay bereaved of spiritual happiness just because we aren’t in the spiritual world. Nothing can deprive us of spiritual happiness except we ourselves – our distraction in remembering Krishna. By the disciplined practice of devotional service, we can replace distraction with absorption. Then we can dive deeply and drink fully from that ocean of happiness from this moment onwards for all of eternity.

Do devotional service and avoid distraction by absorption. Drink, drink and drink the nectar of spiritual happiness.
