Bg 6.43

tatra taṁ buddhi-saṁyogaṁ
labhate paurva-dehikam
yatate ca tato bhūyaḥ
saṁsiddhau kuru-nandana

Word for word:

tatra — thereupon; tam — that; buddhisaṁyogam — revival of consciousness; labhate — gains; paurvadehikam — from the previous body; yatate — he endeavors; ca — also; tataḥ — thereafter; bhūyaḥ — again; saṁsiddhau — for perfection; kurunandana — O son of Kuru.

Translation:

On taking such a birth, he revives the divine consciousness of his previous life, and he again tries to make further progress in order to achieve complete success, O son of Kuru.

tatra taṁ buddhi-saṁyogaṁ, so yoga means connection, Samyoga means reconnection, Srila Prabhupada has translated it as revival, tatra taṁ buddhi-saṁyogaṁ, so here buddhi doesn’t refers just faculty of intelligence in general but Buddhi for practicing spiritual life. tatra means that life in which the person born next, taṁ buddhi-saṁyogaṁ, that buddhi for practicing spiritual life one gets that labhate, what one has cultivated in previous life one gets that in next life. And yatate ca tato bhūyaḥ, one starts endeavouring again, saṁsiddhau kuru-nandana, kuru-nandana, O Arjuna such a person starts endeavouring we may wonder we practice spiritual life where is our spiritual advancement stored. Where it is stored? So this spiritual advancement is not stored like things in this material world is stored, buddhi-saṁyogaṁ, so actually the attraction that we develop for Sri Krishna on the devotional path is in a sense a revival of original propensity of the soul. And because same soul continues from one body to another that reactivated spiritual attraction also goes from one life to another and in a sense the subtle body also becomes purified. As subtle body becomes purified more and more one needs further spiritual advancement and subtle body also stays the same from one life to another so our spiritual credits like our karmic credits are not stored in physical form they are not connected with the physical body they are stored deep within and labhate paurva-dehikam, one gets it from one’s previous body because it is revived and then one starts endeavouring again. Now the imp point is Sri Krishna will give opportunity for revival but the soul the Sadhaka has to personally choose to start that practice yatate, so it is not that because one has gone to heaven and come back then there is no more endeavour, or now all temptations are gone so now I can just straight ahead move on spiritual life, no, the temptations are always there and the battles are always there yatate ca tato bhūyaḥ, again such a person endeavours, and for what? saṁsiddhau for attaining success and Srila Prabhupada gives several examples of spiritual advancement moving over many life times and one example he gives in the purport is of Bharat Maharaj who became a dear and then Jada Bharata and then liberated. So labhate paurva-dehikam, so although Jada Bharata was born in Brahminical family and Brahmana are generally engaged in Karma-Kanda but Jada Bharatha had enormous spiritual advancement come from his previous life or second last life as the Bharat Maharaj who had renounced the world and make spiritual advancement.
