Transcript of Bhakti-Shastri class on this verse by Chaitanya Charan

Now Sri Krishna will give a general principle:

Bg 8.6

yaṁ yaṁ vāpi smaran bhāvaṁ
tyajaty ante kalevaram
taṁ tam evaiti kaunteya
sadā tad-bhāva-bhāvitaḥ

Word for word:

yam yam — whatever;  api — at all; smaran — remembering; bhāvam — nature; tyajati — gives up; ante — at the end; kalevaram — this body; tam tam — similar; eva — certainly; eti — gets; kaunteya — O son of Kuntī;sadā — always; tat — that; bhāva — state of being; bhāvitaḥ — remembering.

Translation:

Whatever state of being one remembers when he quits his body, O son of Kuntī, that state he will attain without fail.

So Krishna is saying

yaṁ yaṁ vāpi smaran bhāvaṁ, so whatever bhava we remember at the time of death, tyajaty ante kalevaram, at the time we are giving up the body,

taṁ tam evaiti kaunteya, that one will attain,

sadā tad-bhāva-bhāvitaḥ, so the word bhāva has come in the previous verse also, so 8.5 Mad Bhavam, Krishna says they will attain my nature those who remember Me at the time of death. So Krishna is saying this is best super most application of principle and the principle is that whatever we remember that we will attain. So whatever Bhava we have that ultimately we will attain,

yaṁ yaṁ vāpi smaran bhāvaṁ, so we see that Bharat Maharaj remembered deer so he got body of a deer. taṁ tam evaiti kaunteya, that is what we will attain

sadā tad-bhāva-bhāvitaḥ, tad-bhāva-bhāvitaḥ that means Krishna is telling that which is bhāvitaḥ is remembering eventually becoming so subtle is the template of the gross in Bhagavatam it is said that by looking at the state of the subtle body one can understand what one’s past was what one’s future is going to be that means that means if I look at the subtle body and found a lot of lusty thoughts over there that means in my past I must have engaged in lot of lust that is why I have that kind of thoughts now, and it also indicated if this is the kind of thought I will be continue with then I will get another body where in I will fulfil the lusty desires. So of course the lusty thoughts may be there but point is are we encouraging those thoughts or squelching those thoughts, are we stimulating those thoughts by further imagining things or we when they come nothing doing Get Out, don’t think about these things what is our response that is important so the point is subtle is the template of the gross so what ever the state of the subtle body accordingly we will get a gross body tad-bhāva-bhāvitaḥ, So Sri Krishna is giving this general principle and these two verses are often referred as the Law of Last Thought we may have heard of Law of gravity, Law of motion, Laws of electromagnetism these are laws at gross realm, but here we are talking about law which intercedes intellectual subtle and gross realms. This principle is at subtle level but because soul is involved and soul is transmigrating the soul is getting a gross body so it involves all three and law of last thought is whatever we think about at the time of death that we will attain. Here again we can see that Srila Prabhupada quoted full Maha Mantra just in previous verse he has quoted 2 times and again he has quoted it here.
