Transcript of Bhakti-Shastri class on this verse by Chaitanya Charan

Then Krishna concludes by the famous verse which Srila Prabhupada quotes very often

Bg 9.10

mayādhyakṣeṇa prakṛtiḥ
sūyate sa-carācaram
hetunānena kaunteya
jagad viparivartate

Word for word:

mayā — by Me; adhyakṣeṇa — by superintendence; prakṛtiḥ — material nature; sūyate — manifests; sa — both;caraacaram — the moving and the nonmoving; hetunā — for the reason; anena — this; kaunteya — O son of Kuntī; jagat — the cosmic manifestation; viparivartate — is working.

Translation:

This material nature, which is one of My energies, is working under My direction, O son of Kuntī, producing all moving and nonmoving beings. Under its rule this manifestation is created and annihilated again and again.

mayādhyakṣeṇa, under my supervision

prakṛtiḥ, so prakṛtiḥ works under My supervision.

sūyate sa-carācaram, sūyate, it manifest,

sa-carācaram, the living and the none living

hetunānena kaunteya, for that reason under that hetu kaunteya

jagad viparivartate, viparivartate, parivartate means change, viparivartate means cycle of change it is working it is going on.

So Krishna concludes this section by saying all this viparivartate that is maintenance which is talked about in 4,5 & 6 and then the creation and destruction which is talked about in 7,8 & 9 all this is happening in my supervision.

mayādhyakṣeṇa prakṛtiḥ, this is happening under My supervision.

The word supervision is important ādhyakṣeta the overseer or supervisor is not involved in hands on.

That person is overseeing akṣeya is eyes so Krishna is seeing from above, He is also present as Super Soul inside so He is also seeing from inside, but seeing from inside He is not attached He is not entangled. He is, as if above, He is above material consciousness even if He is present within matter, He is still above because He is not caught up in material consciousness and sūyate sa-carācaram and all of creation is happening under His will, so as devotees what is the implication of this understanding.

Sometimes devotees thinks that I am serving Krishna and wanted to go back but in this world there are so many problem internally my mind is troubling me and externally there are so many hostile forces how can I continue fighting this battle all alone it is difficult. Even in this material world whatever is happening is by sanction of Sri Krishna under His supervision, so He is there with us we will see later on that Sri Krishna is personally involved for His devotees, for others He is dispassionately overseeing but for His devotees He is passionately involved and that is His glory that He is involved He is concerned for devotees He is hands-on and at the same time for everyone else He is there. He is in-charge of creation in-charge of existence. Ultimately the purpose of jail is to reform the citizens similarly this world is a place of suffering and all the distraction and suffering is there to ultimately reform the souls. So there is no need to feel destitute / alone Krishna is there within our heart and Krishna is involved and He cares, and in fact whole system of material nature is created so that there is facility available so that we turn back to Him when we turned away from Him He could have just left us but He didn’t do that He designed a system by which we can try out our desire for independent enjoyment when those desires are exhausted we can return back to Him therefore Sri Krishna helps and He is there to help us even if  He is having apparent detachment for karmis those who are not His devotees they are also part of His compassion, they don’t want God to be involved in their life they wanted to play out their fantasies independently so He says OK I will provide you enough opportunity for trying that out when you will be fed-up I will be there waiting in your heart for you to turn to Me and return back to Me and for devotees He is eagerly acting constantly to help them come back to Him, especially how He shows grace to His devotees that part of the section which is later in this chapter.
