Transcript of Bhakti-Shastri class on this verse by Chaitanya Charan

So in next statement we will discuss Krishna’s last statement, Arjuna’s response and Sanjay’s concluding statement.

In this section Krishna has spoken the Charam Sloka

Sripad Ramanujaachray said 18.66 is charam sloka of BG.

Srila Vashvanath Chakravarti Pad has said that BG is like a treasure chest where 7-12 chapters are treasures and it is covered with two hard layers initial 6 chapters which mentioned Karma to Bhakti is one layer and last 6 chapters from Gyana to Bhakti is another layer but in order to attract people two jewels are kept at the outer layer to attract people. These are 18.65, Man Mana Bhav Mad Bhakto and 18.66 Serva Dharman Parityaja…

Now as a serious teacher student discussion Krishna is concerned has Arjuna understood this message or not so in 18.72 Krishna asks Arjuna. Till now Arjuna was questioning and Krishna is answering now Krishna is questioning to Arjuna:

Bg 18.72

kaccid etac chrutaṁ pārtha
tvayaikāgreṇa cetasā
kaccid ajñāna-sammohaḥ
praṇaṣṭas te dhanañ-jaya

Synonyms:

kaccit — whether; etat — this; śrutam — heard; pārtha — O son of Pṛthā; tvayā — by you; ekaagreṇa — with full attention; cetasā — by the mind; kaccit — whether; ajñāna — of ignorance; sammohaḥ — the illusion; praṇaṣṭaḥ — dispelled; te — of you; dhanamjaya — O conqueror of wealth (Arjuna).

Translation:

O son of Pṛthā, O conqueror of wealth, have you heard this with an attentive mind? And are your ignorance and illusions now dispelled?

kaccit — whether;

etac chrutaṁ pārtha, O partha have you heard this?

tvayaikāgreṇa cetasā, by you with āgreṇa cetasā, by one pointed attention, have you heard this?

And if you have heard it, kaccid ajñāna-sammohaḥ, have illusion and ignorance

praṇaṣṭas te dhanañ-jaya, O Dhanan-jaya, has you ignorance / illusion been dispelled.

So Krishna is inquiring from Arjuna (1) Have you heard attentively (2) Have you understood it clearly

So Krishna has taken Arjuna to battle field and converts battle field into class room, revealed the kind of knowledge which was never revealed earlier and will not be revealed again, extraordinary knowledge He revealed, and raises the consciousness of student to such a high level.

kaccid ajñāna-sammohaḥ, illusion and ignorance, so illusion means to not know and ignorance means to know wrong so both are problematic.

praṇaṣṭas te dhanañ-jaya, praṇaṣṭas, destroyed

So O Dhanan-Jaya you are conqueror of great wealth so have you conquered this particular wealth? Have you conquered ignorance and illusion? And have you attain the wealth of wisdom?

So Krishna was ready to explain whole BG again if Arjuna has not understood. That is compassion of Krishna.
